I have my coop / run set up in the yard and have run the hardware cloth ~18" beyond the wall and buried. The 4 1/2 week olds only go out during the day, while I am home. They have access to the coop and run for water and security. So their scent is all over the place.

I have noticed that something (raccoon or possum) has tried digging into the run. They encounter the wire and move around the perimeter without success. Next week I will probably have the girls out full-time because it will be warm enough.

Question: Will the predators continue to come back and try to get at the hens?? Do they remember that the wire is in place and just leave us alone?? Are there so many raccoons and such that one will always venture into the yard???

Can't say if they remember anything, but what I can say is a predator is ever persistant.

If they are hungry and no other meal option is available they will continue without fail, to try to break into your coop.

No coop is 100% safe- 100% of the time.
