I apologize if this sounds incredibly stupid...but I am posting anyway. I came home today to find my husband and daughters frantic. The neighbor's dog had been running on our property, there was a pile of feathers, and one of the Buff Orpingtons was missing. I was so sad, but know this is the price for free ranging. But, 30 minutes later during a head count, everyone was there. Is it possible that a hen could moult this much or did someone get attacked and live to tell about it? I think this is the hen in question, she seems completely fine, but does seem a bit more scraggly than usual.

She looks fine but those piles of feathers look more like a close call to me than a molt. Keep an eye on your neighbors dog!!!
