People, please quit feeding the darn feral cats. You are providing a nuisance, a disease reservoir, and by subsidizing their food supply, you provide them with more energy to hunt and attack other people's chickens and barncats as well as any nearby endangered species. You are also contributing to people like me having to have the rabies series.

Wild predators do not receive the equivalent of food stamps from humans and do not waste time hunting for entertainment. Unfortunately, feral domestic cats often receive food and medical care which makes them an even bigger threat to wildlife and a great annoyance. I don't care if you are just feeding them on your own property - wild animals territories may cross your property and be snuffed by these cats. I've already had the rabies series once and I am really sick of irresponsible people who feed loose cats.

The one I fed for two years wasn't feral. It was a well fed, obviously domesticated cat. Feral means wild. This cat was obviously not wild, probably belonged to someone in the area. His small amount of dry food was put out when I knew he was coming (he had a schedule), not left out, and he ate every bit out of the bowl so no coons were being fed during that time. He came here for a year before I offered him food to keep him coming here to mouse for me, then continued for another two years, never caused a bit of trouble for me, never came with any friends. When it was plain that he was gone, no food was ever put out again because the last thing I want to do is feed raccoons.
