Well, our new pen appears to have withstood its first attack from raccoons. I don't feel so bad about how obsessive I was when I tacked the fencing. I will reinforce. I think I might go ahead and horseshoe nail every part of the fence. Is it safe to say "we can never be too safe?"

I think that's a smart way to go. my coop is virtually wrapped in hardware cloth, including the ceiling. any little space was tightly crammed w/steel wool to repel mice/snakes.
mine mostly free range, but I can't stand the thought of them being trapped in a coop w/ a predator tearing them to pieces one by one & no way out - especially at night when they can't see.
