Preferred substrate/bedding for brooder

I’m doing washed construction grade sand mixed with sweet PDZ this go around and it’s incredibly easy. I had usually done pine shaving or hemp bedding and didn’t think either was easy to clean or kept smell down. I brood in my house so I’m very aware of the smell... I just scoop the poop with a kitty litter scoop. Easy peasy!

Kullas, about how often do you remove a layer?

CoturnixComplex, what kind of sand do you use and where all you get it from?

Just as it gets soiled. First couple days in the paper towel gets changed kinda often as I feed in the paper towel. On the puppy pads ya can let it go a little longer ger as they are eating out of a feeder. On the shavings you can go almost up to time to go into a regular pen. Just depends how much you put in there I go a couple inches that way I can shift it around. Just be careful of water spills.
