Took my chicken who died suddenly for a necropsy on Monday. Preliminary findings states, "Bird was dehydrated and the body cavity contained excessive amounts of fat; liver contained petechial hemorrhages; there was moderate bacterial peritonitis; samples were collected for testing." I am just so sad. Reading about the bacterial peritonitis, I never saw her in the stance or any signs of distress from her. I am 3 years in with my girls and boys and they all mean the world to me. I am still waiting on the testing of her tissue to come back. It has been so cold I have been trying to keep them as comfortable as possible I am in GA. Cleaning and disinfecting everything including our shoes. No more seeds in their food for awhile until I find out test results. I needed this to write it down. Feeling so low.

I am sorry for your loss:hugs❤️

Do you have a photo of your little hen? What breed was she?
Did they find any lash egg material in her?

I recently euthanized my hen Mint, I opened her up and found large lash egg material so big and her gizzard covered with fatty tissue. She had peritonitis and was treated with antibiotic 3 times.

Sorry for your loss, but glad that you were able to send her body in for a necropsy. It is a good idea to feed a balanced chicken feed with only a limited amount of treats. It sounds like fatty liver disease, but please post the final necropsy report.
