Hello everyone its been awhile. I gave away all my full size hens earlier this year, my pens need to much work( ice storm damage, termites) and I am in middle of a home remodel so no time or $$ for repairs. I was done with chickens until a buddy showed me his pair of Old English Game birds. WOW I really miss having chickens and pair or three of these would be just right for me. He is going to give me a pair when his hen has a hatch. I would just like to buy a raised chicken house and add a small run. Does anyone have recommendation on a place to purchase a quality house? Every thing I have seen on line is very poorly built or well built and way to large and $$.

I agree wholeheartedly with your assessment of most manufactured coops. Overpriced and don't house the numbers of birds they claim.

How about a small storage shed and convert it for your needs. One big advantage is that they're walk-in size, rain proof and fairly predator proof to start.

I looked at tons of coops, and have decided to just build one myself. It's going to be a whole lot of work, of course, but at least I know it will be sturdy and predator-proof!
