Hey guys I need some help or advice here, I have a baby Khaki Campbell that I had to assist due to shrink wrapping and when I had helped it I found out that it was still absorbing its egg yolk. I have left it in the incubator and it’s been almost 48 hours. It’s shown good progress of absorbing the yolk but I want to make sure it looks right because this is my first time dealing with a premature duckling and I really want this little one to survive. I’ll attach a picture of it so far.

Sorry it was moving around a lot taking pictures. I came home from my practice and it’s like fully disconnected from the egg. It’s flailing around a lot but it hasn’t been able to stand up at all. I’m worried it might not be able to stand up or at least sit up straight.

It’s kind of gotten flipped over but I’m afraid it might rip whatever this protrusion is off or tear it and bleed and die. Which is the last thing I want for it.

To me it does look like a tiny bit of yolk. Shouldn’t take too long to absorb.

Hmm, small bowl? Measuring cup. Cardboard box. Really any tiny container, I suppose. I used a ramekin-type dish for one of my babies.

Found a small bowl to use and put a paper towel in the bottom of it. I’m not sure if it’s the abdomen or it’s vent I’m just hoping it’ll fully heal. What do you guys think like it’s chance are of healing all the way and surviving? Had thoughts of potentially giving it sugar water because it’s been flailing around using up a lot of energy and I just don’t want it to get weak and die. I wasn’t sure if it’s a good idea though if it’s still finishing up with the yolk.

I had a similar situation a while ago, however it was a lot more. If it is a yolk sack like mine was, I bet he will be ok. This guy had one which adventally dried up and fell off. Our incubator was also too short so it was just partially on. I am by no means an expert, but I have hope for your duckling.
