Posted some photos below, with a lengthy description of the situation. Let me know if I can take any specific photos that may help me save this little guy.If it just hatched it won’t want to eat for at least 24 hrs they live off the yolk sac it absorbed. Did it absorb the yolk or is that what you’re seeing? Pictures please
It has heat underneath it. The temperature is at 93ish. Yesterday it was more active.Newly hatched babies require heat to finish there internal processes. Based on your pictures I think it might be to late to save it. If it survives it might become a disabled duck.
Update. Little guy seemed to be improving yesterday, but has declined significantly today. He's not peeping anymore and hardly moves. Legs are straight out behind him. I couldn't get it to eat or drink today. I also started niacin supplement. Please help. What should I try next? I want to do whatever I can.Update with my duckling.
It was doing pretty well yesterday, but not so much today. It had pasty butt so I applied a warm wet cloth and it pooped, it now has pooped twice when I've picked it up, but not on its own. Last poop was clear & white. I have a few other concerns as well... It has a big red scab on the belly and will hardly eat, but will drink if I hold it at a little dish of water. (I put electrolytes and probiotics in the water). It doesn't seem to be able to walk, but scoots around a little (usually leaving it's head down). It just wants to be held or snuggled in a blanket all the time.
For context. This duckling was not ready to hatch, it had pipped, but the mama stomped on the egg crushing it before it turned. I put it in a temporary brood, but decided to put it back with the mom for the night because I couldn't regulate the temperature or humidity and thought it had a better chance.
The next morning I found it cold, outside of the nest (and out of the egg). I put it under a heat lamp, with a humidifier nearby. I also had to gently wash eggshell off it's face that had dried over one side and it's eye.
I'm attaching photos of how it was in the egg and current photos.
