About to purchase a heater plate for my chicks on the way, and would like to know folks opinion on thees two brands. Preference for the Premier1 or for the Rentacoop heater plate?

X2No experience with the Rentacoop plate, but very happy with my Premier1. My guess is they're both made in the same factory and just branded differently.
Hard to say if it's 'too cold', some of the plates have a disclaimer not to use it in ambient temps below 50°F...others have used them there tho.It seems to have many names, here in Europe it's called Comfort. I'm testing it at the moment and I'm afraidit's a bit too cold, the chicks wont leave from under it... It could also be that the rest of the brooder is a bit cold too...
The room where the brooder is at, it's around 66f, anyway I've got a bit paranoid and changed to a ceramic heating lamp... The chicks seem to be reacting positively to it.Hard to say if it's 'too cold', some of the plates have a disclaimer not to use it in ambient temps below 50°F...others have used them there tho.
Height needs to be adjusted properly...and habitat needs to be protected from drafts.
Hopefully your chicks are coming out from under to eat and drink enough.
66 is fine for ambient temp. The room where the brooder is at, it's around 66f, anyway I've got a bit paranoid and changed to a ceramic heating lamp... The chicks seem to be reacting positively to it.
