So, the string is there to hang the scoop up and serves no other purpose. However, my chickens have decided to start jumping up at it and pulling on it when I'm walking in with their food in said scoop. I'm not sure if they think it's a worm or they have learned that "hey, if I jump up and pull on this when the big oaf is not paying attention, he'll drop it and I'll get my food .3 seconds faster".
