Unfortunately I think I had terrible luck when it came to buying straight run day old chicks from a local man. Let me know what you think they are gender wise and if they are BLR or Splash. I'm so confused on the colors! ALSO, I need help picking which ROO to keep! If you were going to keep one for breeding purposes which would be most qualified for breed standard? OR will I be able to tell that more so in the next few weeks?

I see 7 Roos and one pullet. Am I the only one?? I am not very good at this though either.

Had to say though, holy cow they are all GORGEOUS!

How close to Dothan, AL are you? I could PROBABLY take one of those Roos off your hands...

Oh dear! I sure hope not! LOL!

Oh, and if you are willing to make a road trip to Nova Scotia, you are welcome to one of the Roos!

Sorry we aren't closer!

I'm seeing the same thing you are, Sunshyn225. I would, however, keep an eye on the second pullet, her comb is pinking up fast. How old are they? If she's close to point of lay, that could explain it.

If you are trying to develop a show line, I'd definitely wait for the birds to mature more. Juvenile molts can result in completely different feathering afterwords. It'd be a shame to give away a show quality bird just because their teen years were awkward.

As for the difference between splash and blue, that can be really hard to tell sometimes. The simplest way to describe it is that the splash gene kind of washes out the blue on your bird, where full blues are darker.

Unfortunately I am not an expert on Wyandottes, so I can't pick out juvenile splashes. But if I were to guess, I'd say your last three cockerels are looking to be straight Blue Laced.

Hope that helps, at least a little!
