I need some help please!
When it's-36c like it is here this morning In New Brunswick Canada, and everyone says "don't heat your coop" it's not helpful. My 6 ladies will freeze. I've put a heatlamp in the coop and am going to change the red bulb to a ceramic bulb as soon as it arrives. I just need to know a distance to mount for adult hens. I have itslightly off set from their roost totry to keep them from freezing overnightt. Anyone in a very cold climate able to tell me a distance
to mount a ceramic bulb so as not to cook my ladies but to keep them warm? 100w bulb.

A safer option is a cozy coop warmer
You can find them at most big box stores if you have one close to you. It's a warmer not a heater so it won't make the coop warm but it will give them a little comfort. Heat lights and bulbs are a fire hazard and not recommended.

We have about the same temperatures here in Kimberley, Ontario. I have two Cozy Coop radiant heaters on adjacent walls, which gives us plus 10-12° more in the coop. They are about one foot up off the floor and my elder chicken sits right next to it. Your hens should be fine with the ceramic bulb.

We have also covered the outside windows and nesting boxes with shipping blankets and have inside windows covered in their winter curtains made from fuzzy blankets.

To stop the windchill, we have clear plastic tarps surrounding the entire run, which has a roof.

Last autumn we put insulation and walls in the coop, which helped significantly. We also have a temporary ceiling put up, to keep the area that needs to be heated smaller. The coop is always .5 to 1° warmer than in the attic, so it seems to help.
And if it gets any colder I am bring all 10 of them inside to the laundry room

Now, this is just what I do and other people may have better solutions.
I hope this helps😃🐣🥶

PS it is currently -4 in the coop but -18 in the run. They seem fine☺️
