I have never had peafowl before, but I would like to have some-so elegant, so beautiful, and I love their call, too. I have found a lady with chicks that she wants to sell, and she has pretty much told me to name my price. Well, I have no clue what a fair price is! Can some one clue me in? I was thinking $10-20 per chick? They are less than a month old.

Thank you all in advance.

Ours start at $25 and go up as they get older. I really depends on your area - how many people raise pea's and what's availible. India Blues are the most common, some of the more rare types get quite a bit more.

Steve, I am assuming they are blues. In my area, I've had to resort to Craigslist to find any for sale. Plenty of folks raise them, but no one has any for sale now.

I figured around 20 would be a good price. I'll star there with my offer, then. Thanks!

yes they are blues, We just added Emerald Spauldings this year and they aren't growing fast enough for me.

The seller emailed me back asking $25 for the chicks-$75 for the adults! Oh boy! So if I want three chicks, I can expect to cough up $75!

Do you have any tips for sexing month old chicks or is it luck of the draw?

$75 for adults is a good price if.... they are pure blood and not a million years old.

It's hard to sex them when they are young. One thing to look for is the legs - the legs of the cock are longer than the pea hen. The cocks will also have a redish tinge to the feathers, the hens will have brown.

The White ones are very hard to tell.

Deerman, don't get angry...I am thinking of peafowl as an alternative to cats for help with snake control. In your opinion, is this a good option?

If you are going to free range, you are better to start with peachicks. Yes peafowl will kill snakes, not sure how large of one.

Oh, not Mad at you not even about the cats, just been having alot of trouble with my neighbors dogs and cats killing my birds.

Steve, what do you mean about pure. Like pure indiablue(no green blood), or are you talking like pure to color. Blues split to another color or pattern are worth more.
