Went to put kids in bed tonight and found one of my leghorns with a lot of blood on her head. whilst I put the coop on lockdown to catch her ( these leg horns really are the hardest to catch out of my gang), there was a loud bang on the side of the barn. Turned out it was a hawk coming in for an attack on 3 who had been caught outside. They were lucky. Checked them over and no wounds but my leghorn didn’t fair so well. I know that it’s often the case that with small wounds bleed a lot but I persevered and have tried to clean her up. I don’t want to stress the poor thing out any more than I already have but I cleaned her up with disinfectant the best I could and have made her some scrambled eggs. I’m going to keep her in the garage for next few days at least so others don’t start pecking at her. My 2 questions if I may. I don’t have any creams or potions to put on her. Do I need something. I’ve removed as much of the blood as I can but I don’t want to muck her about too much.
second question. I’m new to this chicken malarkey, is there a basic chicken first aid kit I should keep?
p.s. I feel bad that I haven’t named this chicken as so many of u do but I’ve got 24 and this one never lets me love it

Where are you located? You can add that to your profile so we don’t have to ask. Is the bleeding coming from the comb only, or from both the comb and other cuts? You are so lucky to have discovered the hens and the injured one when you did. Chlorhexidene, which is sold as Hibiclens in Walmart, is a good disinfectant to use. Betadine is good as well. Vetericyn wound spray sold in farm stores can be used as well. If you have some plain Neosporin or Triple Antibiotic Ointment, or a similar antibiotic ointment, that can be applied to cuts.

Is she able to stand and walk? Does she seem to be in shock? I would let her rest inside the house, separated for the night. In the morning, offer some water and her usual feed.

Sorry, I can’t work out how to add my location. She’s fine she flying around the garage, looking in the mirror, eating her eggs. it had stopped bleeding when I cleaned her. It’s not her comb. I think it’s under her ear lobe. So I just wiped what I could without mucking her about too much. I don’t think she’s in shock. I can here her clucking away out there
