I've got some 8 week old chickens. All have been looking extremely healthy as they've grown. Found one this morning that was huddled in the corner of the coop and wouldn't come out with the others. She has a "tube" coming out of her rectum. Is this a worm? If so, is it too late to save her?

Wow that's odd. Haven't seen anything looking like that posted before. Does not look like worm. Seems more like prolapse, but let me say I have no experience with Emergencies. Good luck.

Chris.. Sorry to see your poor girl like this... She most definately has a prolapsed vent but from what I can see, it's not very bad... You need to isolate her and try a cool compress as this will help take down some of the inflammation.. Right now, I'm "on a mission". She is totally subdued and sitting in the corner of a box. Water was boiled and everything waiting for it to cool to proceed to the next step.

I'll post more as I progress.
