problem at rear end

I have a maran with a large swollen and red area just below the vent , all the hairs are gone , either fallen out or pecked out. Is this an egg laying problem ? looks a bit like a red golf ball from the outside and when i touh it is fairly soft ..

any ideas

Sounds like prolapse. I've attached a recent thread with info. Sorry I'm not better with emergencies.
If it doesn't seem to be prolapse please add more information (see sticky at the top of the forum) and a picture so the more knowledgable members can help you. Good luck
