Problem chick

This is our first time incubating. Our first hatched chick was perfect, but oursecond was born with what looks like something hanging from its vent area. Is this intestine? What do we do?

This JUST happened to me yesterday! I think it was due to low humidity and a rough hatch. I hatch mine in an egg carton. I found him kind of hanging from the side of the carton still attached to the egg! He also had dried gunk that plastered his wing down. Hard lesson learned for sure! Anyways, I had to give him a bath to remove the gunk. He has since done great! I checked on him this morning (he just hatched yesterday) and his "swollen area" has gone down considerably!

I hope so! I decided it looked like it was coming from the umbilical area. It's smaller and drier now, but still there. :-(

Yep! That's where mine was at too, at the umbilical area. Give it time! I was surprised what 24 hours can do for a baby!
