Hi all, I have had chicken for the better part of 20 years. Rhodies, Barreds and Buffs. I was asked to adopt a white leghorn,, as she was the only ine left after a fox attack. I had her in a cage in front of door to our coop for a week so my other 28 girls could see her and she them. I let her into the big coop when the rest of the flick was outside grazing and whatnot. There was at first the normal hens chasing her away and segregation. Then I started to find her up and under the underneath of or hen house. She'd come out when I'd give the flock their nightly treats to drink, and go into the coop to eat. I'd throw treats in there for her too. Twice I had to force her out of her hiding spot to eat and drink while keeping the other preoccupied with treats. Yesterday, she came out and I noticed a small red spot on her head, I threw treats in to her turned away for about 30 seconds and to my horror, 3 of my girls had her pinned to the ground and were for lack of a better term, pecking the shit out of her. I shooed them off swooped her up and assessed the damage. She has a Nickle sized wound to the top of her head, and won't stand up. She can hold her self up if I lift her by the chest but slowly lays back down. She's eating and drinking. But the poor girl seems utterly defeated. I have introduced a few girls with no issues but they have been of the same breed of a flock of new chick's into existing flock
I assume because she is the only one of her kind so she sticks out??
I now have her back in a cage to help her heal.but unsure of what to do...Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
