Problem with hatching, starts piping and then stops n dies

Hi guys,

Crisis over, I put one of the trays in that I had the eggs in and then they all started to pop out, every 2 hours I'd pull the hatched ones out and then put the piping ones in the trays upright. managed to hatch 48 or so, so didn't to to bad.

Thank you for you help everyone and sorry for getting names wrong, hehe I was a bit special. Sorry Aprophet...

Oh one died as soon as it poped out of the shell, looked like its chest was crushed, weird.

Next time i'm going to hatch them upright.

I assume we are talking about coturnix quail here..... You should "lock down" at 14-15 days..... 3 days before they hatch....if your temp has been right on, !5 days. This is to allow the chick time to orient its self properly to hatch. It needs to do this so it pips into the air cell that has grown at the large end of the egg, if your humidity has been close..... Too much humidity during incubation and the air cell does not develop large enough, because the water inside does not evaporate. Not enough humidity and too much water evaporates and the air cell becomes so large it is cumbersome to the chick and restricts its ability to properly rotate in to position.... You can head off alot of the drown in shell issues if you hatch in a upright position as JJ describes above.... The "shrink wrapped" chicks is a humidity issue. Not enough.... At 18 days it is a problem that is hard to fix..... Mist the eggs when you open the lid but dont open it unless it is a emergency ! I shoot for a incubation humidity of 40 - 45 % them bump it to 65 - 70% at lock down.... Incubation temp should be 99.5 for a bator with a fan and 101 of a still air model.... measure temp at top of eggs.... Good luck
