I have only this last year gotten into Coturnix. The first clutch I was so disappointed in their health we culled them all out and started all over again. This second batch is Jumbo browns. I have lost five hens during them laying eggs. Each of them has laid an egg and injured themselves so bad that they lot many organs and died! What is going on!!!???!!! Is this normal in the Jumbo Brown Coturnix? One was a dark range tuxedo. One was a Texas A&M. The rest Jumbo brown. Any thoughts?

It is not 'normal', but it is not unheard of. I believe the remedy to that is to feed them oyster shells, it seems that the reason they do that is a lack of calcium.

I've lost 3 or 4 hens this year due to laying problems, they never recover.

They get plenty of calcium and it has been the first week of laying eggs for them all. It is so sad to see it. One didn't pass away but was paralyzed
