Some of my birds are producing young that have very long flight feathers... the feathers go way beyond the end of the birds tail.

These birds seem to have long thin bodies... not like the more rounded plump adults.

Its never happened before. Can this be a genetic thing.. or maybe diet?

They are very healthy and active.. but they are not good at flying as the long wing feathers kind of flow them down.

Anyone else had a similar problem?

Never had that happen before.

I think I know what is going on.

Most of my pigeons are utility kings and white homers. However, I have a couple pairs of Old Dutch Capuchin pigeons.

I noticed the flight feathers on the Capuchins are very long.. and the birds have a long slim body shape.

Today I saw one of the male Old Dutch Capuchins mating with a white homer AND king pigeon!!!

So I think the young are a result of a cross breeding.

They don't look very nice to me... I think I am going to separate the Capuchins and the 'mutts' into a different coop from now on.

The male Capuchin is brown... and looking at the youngsters with long feathers they have slight brown flecks on their wings.... all my other birds are pure white.... so now I am pretty sure I know what is going on.

at least I don't need to worry about it being a disease or something.
