Hey y'all. I'm new to the whole chicken breeding business and am curious to know if you guys process/sell your breeding stock after every generation so as to not breed the parents back to their own offspring?

I think it will depend on the purpose.

In my book proceeding the way you described is not breeding but simple reproduction.

For breeding purposes several different bloodlines will be necessary to have a widespread genetic basis to choose from when pairing your parent birds.

And you will have to wait for their offspring to mature, lay eggs, perform and molt at least one season to be sure of not only their appearance according to standard (SOP), but laying performance, robustness, social behaviour etc.

You will have to keep the parent birds for several seasons to pair them with different partners/ bloodlines thus trying to achieve the best overall results.

All along painstakingly keeping records of your procedures to not lose track and get all messed up.

Depends on your 'breeding' goals.
Are you just looking for more layers every year, or striving to an SOP?

'Inbreeding' with birds is not the same as with humans.
In general parent/offspring is fine.
Sibling/sibling may produce anomalies sooner.
