Processing station for rent, so cal, $100/day craigslist

Investing in your own equipment could run around $2,000 or more, unless you build it all yourself. Having someone else process for $2.00/bird with 100 birds is $200. An experienced processor can do 100 birds in a day without any trouble by himself/herself. They would save $100, and obviously more if you have a couple helpers and perhaps 200 or 300 chickens.

I read about a mobile processing station somewhere once. Processing could be done "on farm" by simply hauling the processing trailer to wherever it needed to be. That avoids certain regulations, and could also save money, since each farm could rent the equipment, rather than purchase their own. If I recall, it was a complete setup, not just a scalder and plucker. An interesting job might be to have such a setup, and then just travel around your state making "house calls" to process folks chickens. Instead hauling your chickens to the processor, the processor comes to you! I wonder what you'd have to charge to make that viable.
