1) What type of bird , age and weight (does the chicken seem or feel lighter or thinner than the others.) Chicken, 2 years, 8 lbs
2) What is the behavior, exactly. She has prolapse of her cloaca and ovaduct. There are 2 openings showing. W
3) How long has the bird been exhibiting symptoms? Since yesterday afternoon, Monday March 6, 2023.
4) Are other birds exhibiting the same symptoms? No
5) Is there any bleeding, injury, broken bones or other sign of trauma. A little bit of bleeding
6) What happened, if anything that you know of, that may have caused the situation. After I soaked her in epsom salt for 20 minutes and added some coconut oil, a shelless egg came out.
7) What has the bird been eating and drinking, if at all. Not much at all. I gave her a scrambled egg and she ate it and drank some water, but not enough imo.
8) How does the poop look? Normal? Bloody? Runny? etc. There is white poop that keeps leaking out.
9) What has been the treatment you have administered so far? I found her walking around in the afternoon because of the bright red from her bottom. I soaked her in epsom salts for 20 minutes. Put coconut oil on and attempted to gently push it back in. She then expelled the shelless egg. In the evening, I soaked her again, put coconut oil on and it and sugar to help the inflammation because it was swollen more. This morning I soaked her for 30 minutes and attempted to put pressure by cupping my hand around it. Everytime I put more pressure or tried to maniplate the cloaca, I could tell it really hurt so I didn't do more. I let her walk around my kitchen and she expelled a small quarter size poop that was really firm and drier than usual (like dog poop). It was brown poop with a little grass in it. That's when I thought maybe she is constipated and that's what started this whole thing? I gave her 50 mg Tramadol.
10 ) What is your intent as far as treatment? For example, do you want to treat completely yourself, or do you need help in stabilizing the bird til you can get to a vet? I can take her to the vet tomorrow morning if they availability. Or I can try to continue to treat her at home, I am thinking of giving her Tylan orally in case of infection? I don't have any Maloxicam, but I have 75 mg tablet of Carprofen, prednisone, and temaril-p. I researched anti-inflammatories for chickens, but I couldn't find good information on what is best if you don't have Maloxicam. Is it possible that I could syringe the cloaca gently with water and or coconut oil to help any poop to pass? Some poop is coming out but just a little and it's black. It just seems so tight that I can't get it back in at all. It is starting to turn darker red so I guess that is lack of oxygen. Is there something that I can put on the skin for numb it?
11) If you have a picture of the wound or condition, please post it. It may help. Picture and short youtube video link below. https://youtu.be/3KXKnpx101I
