I really feel horrible. My chicken who had a prolapsed vent about a month ago has it again. She did really well healing with the advice and research from this group. Now, a month later, and two days before I go on vacation, she has a prolapsed vent.
I have her separated and lucky for me prior to this the chickens have never pecked at her vent. I am following the protocols etc but I leave Friday
I have a girl coming over starting Saturday every day to care for the chickens, make sure food is good, clean water, collect eggs, scoop poop in run and coop, etc. When she first stopped by she said it would take 20-25 min if that to do everything. Her and her boyfriend own a business together caring for livestock, pet setting etc so I don’t doubt her capabilities, but also don’t want to burden her with the chicken just in case it doesn’t clear up by tomorrow evening.
The crate and supplies is in the garage, if the vent doesn’t go in by then, will spraying Vetricyn and applying prep H, honey, whatever and pushing the vent in be good enough? I don’t want to task her out to bathing the chicken either because she has a schedule.
What do I do?! Just hope for the best?! I am lucky again, the chickens don’t peck at her, do I just leave her to the care giver to deal with in the crate, keep her with her gal pals and chance it?
No vets in the area either
