Prolaspse uterous? oozing from vent? Lethargic..

Please help. My Black Astrolog is sitting quiet, oozing from her vnet what looks like egg yolk and white. Broken egg inside? Anything I can do??

She'll need to be brought in and the warm bath is a good idea initially. Now prepare to be a nurse to a chicken. Gloves, lubricant, strong constitution - you have to very carefully feel inside her vent for broken egg shells and remove if any found. Keep her warm and dry and isolated from any other B's with access to clean water. She should bounce back soon! Good luck.

Performed the procedure.

Good news is that nothing is inside except for a small amount of poop.

So, I guess this means she passed a larger than normal egg? I think I know which one may be hers. Much larger.

Her tissues are no longer as inflamed. They appear almost dry and somewhat less protruding.

Do you recommend Preporation H?

She is drinking water on her own and some food, but she won't stand up?

I'm worried and don't know what to do for her?

Put her in a warm, dark place. Keep her in the dark day & night. You're trying to disrupt her laying cycle by depriving of strong light.

Isolate her from others. You do not want other chickens to peck at her vent.

Keep applying Prep H and putting her prolapse back in as needed.

Make sure she's eating & drinking.

Finally, keep us posted!

I put her outside today in the small coop, isolated. Hoped that would help, but didn't.

So, she is back inside with me, warm, has water and food next to her head.

I'll put her in a dark place as you said. She is in a large box wrapped up with towels.

It's a strange thing, here. I wish I knew what was wrong??

If you have a natural child birth, you know that you don't feel like moving around much either...so I'd keep her warm and inside until she starts acting chickeny again...

I gave mine a warm bath, some bread with olive oil, and kept her in a dark place for a few days until she felt better. Now she is back with her friends and doing just fine. The darkness gives her a break from laying eggs for a few days so she has a chance to heal. I first had mine in light and she had a lot of trouble the next day laying another egg but as soon as I put her in dark she quit laying for a week and healed up. Now she is back to laying fine.
