Pros and cons

I never have done it, so no direct experience here.
If they are flying to the neighbor's or to the road, it's one of the options you have that should help. It will also make them more vulnerable to some predators.
Having a safe covered run is necessary, and then fencing to keep them on your property.
What's happening there?

We have 2 "little girls 6 weeks ish old. they are outside in a 5'x12' run that is 4' high, its a meet and greet area to get to know the BIG girls. today was the third time we have caught them setting on the top of the entry gate.

I would not in that case. Well if they drop down on the wrong side, where will they be? If it is in the big girls run, I would just let them do it. If they can fly out, they can fly back.

If you really don't want them out, throw a net, like they put over fruit trees or something. They would be pretty little to clip their wings.

Cutting chicks wings is risky, you could hit a blood feather.
Put lid on your chick pen.

Seems to be the consensus, back to the HD for hardware cloth. I see you are from SW Michigan...Kalamazoo, battle creek...or ? I'm originally from Port Huron area myself.
Due West of Kazoo, pretty close to the Lake.

If that pen is temporary, and you just want to keep chickens in. Try deer netting, it's cheap and keeps out aerial predators.

It won't keep out mammals though. I've had it up for nearly a year. I got mine at TSC. GC
