We're just thinking about getting into chickens -- maybe starting with 3 or 4 in our backyard. Can someone give me a quick run-down of the work we'd have to devote once we have our whole set-up going and the chickens are full-grown?

What needs to be done daily and how long does it take?
How often do you clean and how long does that take?

Thanks!

GC,
Have you read all the info on the links on the main page (Raising Chickens 101, etc)? Those pages are full of wonderful information.

Basically, chicken care can take as much or as little time as you want to give it. Have chickens is rather addicting and you will probably enjoy it more than you ever imagine.

Things done twice daily:
Check on feed and water, and replace if necessary
Collect eggs
If I have to feed and water and collect eggs, then it will take me about 10 minutes.

I clean out my two chickens when they need it . . . which is usually about every week and a half or so. It probably takes me about 20 minutes.
