I am a wild bird rehabber (with three pet feral hens; lightweight birds). Several days ago, I was given a feral chick (2 1/2 to 3 weeks old) who suffered a partial leg amputation due to trauma (just above the foot -- about mid tarsus). The bird is otherwise doing well; able to hop a bit and find food and water in the cage. Does anyone have experience fashioning a temporary artificial leg for a young bird? I am just thinking down the road, so that the bird does not develop bumblefoot -- something to take some of the pressure off of the other foot. Thank you in advance for your help.
