What have you used to protect your floor inside the coop? Mine is wooden and I'm afraid that potent poo will rot it away...

Tell me whats worked for you, please...

I was thinking about asking around for remnant linoleum (sp?). I just found out that I have to buy another thing of shingles, were 3 short

! Just trying to keep the cost down...

I've had bare wood for years - covered with hay. I keep the hay fairly deep - and am careful with the waterer. Haven't had any problems in either coop.

I used left over paint from another project on the floor in one coop and in the other coop is bare wood. I haven't had any problems with either floor in either coop.

If you used pressure treated (I think that's what it's called) lumber then you shouldn't have to worry about the wood rotting at long at you use some type of shavings to soak up the excess moisture from the poo. My chicken house is one I rehabbed & it was originally my grandmothers' chicken house from the late 60s early 70s - the floor is still holding up after all these years.

they have composite board too...but you can craigslist shingles and flooring products. worst case you could put a free add in your town paper
