Protein?

What could i give my girls to give them some extra protein? Other than the layer crumbles and grains.

How many and what are you trying to acomplish with the extra protien--just a healthy treat, feather growth, boost for poorly hens.....?

Scrambled egg is a great high protien treat, but for poorly hens or feather growth you're better off just switching to 22% or more gamebird feed. I like BOSS for a nice treat that is higher in protien then scratch, but it won't do much to bring their total protein consumption up, it just doesn't drop it as much as scratch.

When you say cat food, do you mean the canned variety or dry?

Calf manna. I love that stuff! (well, not for me...for the girls

)

Also mealworms.

Either would work, but I feed mine the occasional dry cat food, as a treat. Others on here have said they give it for extra protein.
