I am completely new to having chickens although I've wanted them for a long time. I ordered a variety of chicks that arrived 18 days ago. Because I wanted 4 hens, I ordered 6 chicks but Meyer Hatchery threw in an extra, so 7 chicks arrived at the USPS office nearest me 
The little peeping, jiggling cardboard box contained one each: Golden Wyandotte, Golden Comet, Speckled Sussex, Light Brahma, White Rock, Barred Rock and what appears to be a Black Jersey Giant.
We have a 85 pound Goldendoodle named Jackson (Jax) who practically came nose to beak with our barred rock chick today. Jax put his nose up to the brooder box while Gumbo was peeking out the window from her roost. I think he'll be a good big brother (from a healthy distance) but only time will tell.
I've been following BYC since placing my chick order a few months ago because you sound like a great group of folks!
