This is probably not a big deal for the seasoned chicken owners, but it was a first for me.....
I have been able to call my young hens out of their coop or call them when they are outside and nearby their run, but as they have matured, they have become a bit bolder and traveling a little further. the other day, they had wandered quite a ways away. Down the hill they wandered and headed off the two acres of land we own. We live in an amazing area overlooking a beautiful lake, in fact, there is a public overlook next door to our house, where people pull in to enjoy the lake and Mountain view. I’ve noticed that our chickens sometimes have a little audience as they wander to that side. When I discovered my hens were headed off our property, most likely to explore a field, I knew I had to get them back. I mustered up my best chicken call, (which had to be quite louD) because of the distance, I yelled ’HERE CHICK, CHICK, CHICK, HERE CHICK CHICK!!!’ To my surprise, my hens, stopped in their tracks, and came running and flying back to me!! Of course, I had an audience too, as some people at the overlook began laughing as the chickens rushed back. I was so proud of them and pleased to know i can get them back when I need to.

What a beautiful place you live in!

Mine will come running for treats like they haven't been fed in weeks! lol

You can train them also by clanging a metal bowl with a spoon (or similar loud noise or bell etc but be consistent) whenever you feed their favourite treats, and they'll hear you and come running even if they are right across the meadow (saves your voice also).

My call is "chook, chook, chook". I bet we all do it!
