So happy I finally have my chickens! First time raising chickens and love the great depth of information on this site. I have 12 Barred Rocks, 11 Columbia Rocks and 11 Rhode Island Reds.... here are a few pictures of some of the "family".
this is Charlie ( the only one I have named.... so far ) I'm not sure but think may be a rooster. Very friendly, jumps on my lap to sit with me, comes when called most of the time, likes to be petted.

this Barred Rock is so Silver, not dark like the others... rooster?

on a mission, lol
and the race is on...

They are cute! That is starting out big! We have three and getting one more today. We've had them one week.

That is great that Charlie hops on your lap. Our two Wyandottes are more docile than the Leghorn, but have only held "MaryAnn". We go in the run and sit with them and are trying to get them used to us. I want to clip the wings so we can let them free range in the backyard.

Yeah, had to order through a hatchery as I had not found or made any local contacts at the time and minimum order was 25, ordered 10 each and they sent a few extra. I sat by the brooder and talked to them and picked them up so they would get use to me too, and now do the same as you and sit in the run. I would love to be able to let them free range, we have a small acreage and they would love it but too many predators on the ground and in the sky here. Bald Eagles are a common site over head and the fox and coyote populations are healthy. I am looking into building a tractor for them so they can range safely ;) ( that can be read, I am bugging hubby to build a tractor, lol )

We have a 1/3 acre lot in a neighborhood of 1/3 to 1 acre lots. We got our chickens at 10 weeks old (went to a Chicken swap at a local feed store). Getting babies and handling them at that age has its advantages, but we were not that confidant about the process!

We're getting an Easter egger today that is from Craigslist. Her name will be Ginger. We went for Gilligan's Island names: the Leghorn is Mrs. Howell, one of the Wyandotte's is MaryAnn, we will have a Ginger. And them I went country with Tammy Wyandotte! (aka Tammy Wynette).
