Proud Pekins!

Hello! I am new to raising ducks and just purchased my first 2 Pekins two days ago. So far so good! I got them so my 6 year old son can be involved in the local 4H club. He's excited to start helping with them. He named them "Alex" and "Sally" which are always subject to change once we find out the sex of the ducks.

Any helpful tips are welcome! They're a week old and are full of life. I'm starting to think about an outside home for them for when they're ready in the next few weeks. Any suggestions on what works well?

Glad you could join the flock! Your ducklings are lovely very cute, I'm not a duck person but I would suggest the learning centre which has a lovely section on ducks. Hey! I'm new too!
Your ducklings are super cute. I also want to get my kiddo into 4h. 4h was pretty much unheard of where I grew up.
I hope you have luck with your ducks! Mine are maybe a few weeks older so I don't have much advice. My neighbor has a fully grown Pekin and he is soo hilarious. We share a fence and he actually greets me when I come home. It's awesome!

Thanks everyone. My kids are enjoying them. Had a friend suggest that I get 2 more in case 1 dies. So now I have 4. They are 5 days old (I was smart enough to ask today when I went to get the other 2.) I have them set up in the shed during the day with their heat lamp so that my 2 year old won't terrorize them and I move them back inside for the night. Is this ok? I want to have healthy Pekins!

I think the ducks are as much for you as your son. Ah huh! They are so cute. If you go to "Other Backyard Poultry" forum above, you will find ducks threads, you may wish to subscribe too. Post any duck questions there and I bet they can give you good answers.

I think your right! We got 2 more pekins today. Total of 4. So...2 for him 2 for me! Lol. I'm enjoying learning about these animals. There quite entertaining as well.

Hello and Welcome To BYC! Good luck with your ducklings, they are adorable! As long as they have what they need at both places (heat, food, water etc), it shouldn't hurt them to move them back and forth between the house and the garage.
