I know cockerels can get aggressive, and that a few feathers pulled out during mating is normal. However, my four month old easter-egger cockerel (he was sold as "Ameraucana/Araucana mix"), is being very aggressive with my pullets. There are two cockerels, and it is the smaller who is the aggressor.
He frequently chases and pulls neck feathers, but tonight seems to have gone too far. I found one gold laced wyandotte pullet (also four months) cowering in the corner, with MANY neck feathers missing, and her skin torn, red and bloody. The injury is about 2 by 3 inches.
I've isolated the pullet, washed her wound, and applied neosporin (after reading some other injury posts). I've placed her in the brooder box (my only other spot) for now - it's 4x4x2, lined with wood shavings, and has a small perch, with food and water.
What else can I do for her? Should I keep her isolated until healed? would she be too stressed?
I've also isolated the cockerel (he's in a plastic tub topped with screening). I'm planning to find him another home - unless there's another solution?
I have pictures of her injury, and will post them as soon as they upload.
Thank you for you help!
