Down pass the blinker light
Hello,
I know this has been talked about a million times but for me it’s all new. I got my pullets from a 70 year old man and he said to use medicated feed until they start laying eggs and then switch to egg layer feed. He said that he has had chickens his whole life and sold chix for over 35 years. I would think he knows more then most. I would like to know why so many here say to use non-medicated feed after 2 or 3 weeks and why.

Thanks,
Buddy aka Bubba

I'm not sure why people say to not feed them non-medicated chick feed. I've talked with the "feed mgr." from Wabash Valley FS and he said that after 4 weeks you can mix scratch grains with the Chick feed to help with the high cost and to make the chick feed go further. He and his family have raised and shown chickens for several years. I have seen pullet feed at Rural King.

Buddy, the medicated chick starter and then layer ration is all my feed store has to offer. I asked about unmedicated pullet starter or developer and they looked at me like I was crazy, so I guess I don't have any choice about how I'm going to feed my chicks!
