I have 2 pullets that were hatched January 19th. One is an Easter Egger, the other a Silver Wyandotte. They joined my 2 Buff Orpingtons, hatched October 1, without incident, are naturally at the bottom of the pecking order, and are inseparable buddies. Today I was taken by surprise to see them butting chests! It didn't last long but I saw it happen twice.
Is this common? My worry is that it could mean one or both are cockerels.

Chicks squabble. Hens and pullets squabble. Nothing to worry about. I've never noticed a real correlation between that and being a rooster—my worst culprit ever for picking fights (EDT: as a juvenile) was a little black crossbred hen who's now a mother of five.
