Pullet got into the cockerel pen ☹️

Try to pull the skin together and glue it? It seems like a huge patch of skin is missing, I don't know if there is enough to pull together. I will try. Should I use any disinfectant after I rinse it?
It'll pull. See if it'll stretch enough. I've treated a lot of wounds of all various severities, I helped an avian vet for a while with chickens from a dog massacre and learned a lot.
If you have vetricyn you can use that. I'd flush it with just regular saline otherwise though. It's in a difficult spot to wrap, and wrapping is extremely stressful for the bird. So I wouldn't recommend that.
You can give her baby aspirin for the pain. I forget the dosage but you can search the threads. I ended up giving mine one whole baby aspirin, crushed and sprinkled over tomato slices.

I’ve never dealt with open wounds so I don’t have any advice. My girl got into the dog run, and my dog had fun plucking her until I heard the cries and rescued the chicken. It was amazing how quickly she healed - back in the coop after a couple of days.

Good luck!
Don't give her aspirin, because that causes the blood to not clot properly. If they're bleeding they can bleed out. I don't think pain medicine is necessary. The shock will wear off.
How do you bind this with glue? I think if you can bind it you can either stich and or wrap it regardless.
I would just try to stretch it and get it glued shut. It'll keep any debris and stuff out.
And definitely keep her alone for a while. You can put some electrolytes in her water too if you have any. Suturing birds is hard because of how thin their skin is. It can be done, but you need a special thread and needle to do it. And it's not good to do if you don't know what you're doing.

We are keeping her in an extra large dog crate in the house. It's supposed to freeze tonight and I don't want her to get cold. I was worried her muscle was exposed :(

I just checked on her and there is no skin to stitch or stretch....like they took a whole chunk off.

I don't think I have any disinfectant that won't burn like hell. Gonna have to run to the store and pick up some stuff.

The cockerels were about 5 months old

Thank you!
I use this to spray wounds that I can't stitch or glue. This stuff works great. You'd probably have to order it though, unless a vet around you has it on hand.
It says tractor supply carries it, but I don't know if any ones local to you would have it.

I've had a couple of my birds escape fox attack with open wounds worse than this.
1. Put her in a pen or cage by herself so others do not pick at the meat.
2. Flush the wound and cover the open area with a lanolin salve like Corona. (An old standby salve used on livestock and humans here all my life)
3. Keep the wound covered in salve until her feathers have grown over the wound. This can take awhile
The salve keeps the area moist and supple. The skin will naturally pull itself back over the wound. The lanolin salve also keeps flys off the wound. Fly strike will be the end of your girl.
The super glue idea may me a good one, but I have no experience with it.
My girl Everest had a bad open gash 4 years ago from a fox that was 3 times the size of yours. She healed with this method.

This is her with her chicks last summer.

Oh boy. Here's my aspirin/electrolyte mix: 2 baby aspirin dissolved in a 2-liter bottle of warm water. To this I add 1/2 packet of Liquid IV. Put the injured bird in a crate/kennel under a heat lamp. Basically, put her in chicken hospital. If she makes it 24 hours, she "should" be ok. The big thing is fluid and warmth. Let her drink as she wishes. After 72 hours she should have a break from the medicine drink.

We had two pullets get into the chicken yard, when my husband found them they were nearly pecked to death. The tops and backs of their heads were skinless, I nearly considered euthanizing them. But I did the heat lamp/water/crate thing and they survived, quite well. The first couple of days were a little touch and go. They had their own beds but could still see each other. Anytime they couldn't see the other, they would panic. They're bff, one is always with the other. Hope this helps.

I couldn't find that salve anywhere so I had to order it online. She is cleaned up and I used vetricyn. She is very perky and rather vocal about being locked inside the house. She is getting all of her favorite treats and seems to be acting normal. I can't keep her wound wet. Every time I check on her it's dry. Hopefully it doesn't take long for the salve to get here. Thank you everyone for all your help. I really need to make a first aid kit for any future injuries!

This was the only thing I remember my mom using on us for cuts and scrapes.
Some folks would only have Blue-Cote in there medicine chest. Which would be WAY to drying and astringent for an open wound like this.
Just be prepared for the feathers surrounding the area to get sticky with this product. It looks bad for a while but this stuff works!

I'm confident your girl will make a complete recovery.
