Pullet or cockerel

Please help!
These guys are over 10 weeks old and I was just about to give them to a new owner because I thought they were both roosters but now someone is making me second guess. No crowing yet. The darker one had wattles and comb early on like the other one but the barring is darker. These are the same two in the pictures, different angles. Last is the father and mommas

That big and red in the comb and waddles at just 10 weeks certainly says boy to me. Dad is a non-barred rooster correct? If he is breeding those barred hens then you'd be creating a sex linked chick, meaning chicks hatched with a light colored dot on their head (indicating they will have barring) will be boys. So any barred chicks are certainly boys! 10 weeks is still pretty early for crowing, my barnyard mix cockerels didn't crow till at least 13 weeks, some even longer.

No other male around. They both had a dot as chicks, the dark one it was smaller and the lighter one was bigger. I thought I had figured that sex linked chick thing but got all confused with the all the info online. I appreciate your help!

I think that only applies to pure breeds like barred rocks. I hear the males have double barring meaning they have more white while the female have single barring and are a darker color overall. I’ve never owned them so I’m just going off what I remember reading at some point.

Both cockerels. The darkness of the barring does not mean anything when you start crossing with non-barred gene carrying parents. Double barred is two copies of the barring gene which make the male appear lighter and single barred is only one copy which makes the female appear darker. To be able to be double barred and receive two copies of the gene both parents have to be carrying the barred genes. When you have a barred hen crossed with a non-barred gene carrying rooster all cockerels should be single barred and pullets will not be barred.

Thank you for explaining it to me! I’m new to this but definitely learning a lot
