I'm new to the forum, and to backyard chicken raising, I have a dozen chicks on order, and I have recently come into possession of two three week old chicks kind of unintentionally (just couldn't say no). They are golden comets, not a breed I had researched prior to accepting these chicks (not smart, I know) and now, after doing a little research I'm wondering if one isn't a cockerel as he is much lighter than the other one. At three weeks is it just too early to tell? At ten days they looked similar, though one has always had more red than the other. But in the last week or so there is a big difference in their color. Does anyone have any experience to share with this newbie (other than to tell me I should have done my homework before taking them!). Can't have roos where I live, so the sooner I know the better if I need to rehome him. Thanks for any input.
