This was an only chick so I don't have any others to compare. It's now 4 weeks old.

Probably too soon to tell, but my guess (and I don't have this breed) would be pullet; I think that by 4 weeks, typically single comb varieties combs are looking much more red if it's a cockerel. But, don't hold me to that!

Hmm.... there seems to be more white in the barring of the chick than in the momma. Generally, the chicks with more white in the barring are male. Hard to tell without hatchmates to compare to, though.

Would you say there white was equal to the black? That would probably be male...

Actually, this mama is half BR but she isn't the chick's mother. The chick was from a pure BR. Ssssh, she doesn't know it's not her chick.

could you get pic of the legs? it might have spurs at this age but im not sure.

I don't know, but comparing to my BR chick from last year I think pullet:

This was my BR rooster at 4 weeks - seems less white and has a redder comb than yours I think.

And at 6 weeks. Both chicks were roosters and had quite pronounced red combs.
