So I'm pretty sure I have a rooster, but I wanted to confirm. In February I got 4 sexlinks and 4 australorps. I think this is a sexlink male, but I want confirmation before I have to get rid of him.

Just out of curiosity, how do you end up with a male sexlink by accident? I thought that was the point of sexlinks. Does this mean if I get sexlink chicks I could still end up with a cockerel I'd have to get rid of?

The female BSL would be black only when a baby chick. The male BSL would be black or dark/grey with a spot on top of head. I guess the mistake typically happens when one doesn’t realize about the yellow/white spot on head when baby chick. Whoever sells BSL should-would know that. When I bought my 2 black sex link pullets, I made sure I picked them out with no spots on. There were male and female BSL in the same bin. That’s how I avoided the mistake.

So, you're really just at the mercy of the hatchery. I'd love to raise some from chicks, but finding homes for roosters here is well nigh impossible. I'm never going to be able to do freezer camp, so I thought maybe sexlinks are the answer. Dang.

Good to know. So just get the all black ones. And don't order by mail. Got it. Thanks.
