My brown leghorn pullet has a deep gash in her leg. Something (probably a coon) gashed it to the bone.

I brought her inside, flushed the wound with a mixture of 1tbs bleach, 1tbs baking soda, 1 gallon of water. Then I wrapoed it in sterile gauze and put her in a cage. She is eating and drinking and pruning and will hobble around.

My question is what else should I do? Do I take her to the vet? Should I put ointment on it? How often should I clean it? Did I miss something?

Thanks!

You have done very well so far! Make sure she keeps eating and drinking. I would also go buy some vetericyn and spray some on her wound.
As for ointment I do not think it is necessary if you have disinfected ad wrapped it

I put betadine on it. Her leg is pretty mangled. I just hope she doesn't get an infection. She seems content to just lay in the cage until she's hungry.
