I have a 7 week old barred rock roo with something funny going on with his toes - they look blistered- the scale will be completely gone, and it will bleed.
I do have a picking problem going on, but that seems confined to tail feathers of two other pullets, with the dominant pullet being the picker. I have spent a lot of time observing both in the run and in the coop and have never seen any pecking at this roo's toes, and have seen lots of pecking at the tail feathers of others.
I have a couple of chickens that came last fall from a farmer to keep a sole survivor company, these came with scaly leg mite, which I have treated and continue to treat as these mutts have feathered legs and I really can't tell if the scaly leg mites are gone or not - this has been going on for months. I've been told that I have to wait for the molt to see if the ugly old scales ontheir legs fall off and if it is clear underneath.
I have treated this little roo with veterx, and have been dipping all the pullets legs into veg oil once a week just in case there is scaly leg mites on these pullets - they share a coop with the big chickens. No other pullet has any symptoms.
I have been using blue kote on the roo's feet because of the presence of a little bit of blood - so it is hard to really see what is going on. Where there are a few scales missing, the surface is pitted and not at all smooth.
Any ideas? the problem is all on the toes, the legs are fine.
