So I have a young pullet that I noticed had what looked like a white goop discharge covering her eye. I tried to wipe it out with a warm wet cloth to no avail. I noticed that it was a little more solid and proceeded with a wetted qtip instead. The "goop" was more like the texture of crisco and had been pushing her eye back into her socket. It came out in a nearly dime sized glob and her eye is still a little glazed.I have hopefully posted before, after, and the glob.

Do you notice a bad odor around the face, or any signs of a respiratory infection, such as sneezing, rattly breathing, wheezing, gasping, or runny nose? MG or coryza can cause sinus and eye swelling in one or both eyes. A peck wound that became infected may also be a possibility. It's good you got the eye pus cleaned out, and I would recommend cleaning the eye with saline, and applying Terramycin eye ointment or plain Neosporin ointment twice a day. If you suspect a respiratory disease, then antibiotics such asTylan, tetracycline drugs, or Gallimycin may help symptoms. Here is a good link about the common respiratory diseases: http://edis.ifas.ufl.edu/ps044

It had an odor when I first pulled it out, which can be expected. But it didn't have a distinct odor around her face or the glob. She was eating fine and I hadn't noticed any irregularities about her except for the eye.
