Hi all. I previously had golden comets who gave me an egg daily faithfully since they began laying. I replaced my flock this year with 5 red stars and some other later breeds (not laying yet). The red stars all started laying July 4th-8th, however I only get typically 1-2 eggs a day of I'm lucky 4. Is this normal for when they are starting out?

Yes this is normal for new layers.
Give them more time to get into a routine.
Make sure you feed a proper diet too.

Are you sure the RS's are all laying?

Vent Appearance:
Dry, tight, and smaller - usually not laying.
Moist, wide, and larger - usually laying.

Pelvic Points, feel for the 2 bony points(pelvic bones F-F) on either side of vent:
Less than 2 fingertip widths apart usually means not laying.
More than 2 fingertip widths apart usually means laying.
(Spacing is relative with chickens size and humans finger size.)

I agree it seems normal-ish (also agree with Aart - are you sure they are ALL laying?). When they start laying, it takes a while before all the gears know what they're doing and then do it with any reliable frequency.
