Hello,
Can someone help me out here? My chicks are about 6 weeks now and they have been in the coop for about a week and a half. But they are still sleeping on the floor. I thought they would roost by now. My last new set of chicks did. Am I just being impatient? Or, should I be discouraging them from sleeping on the floor? Our temps are 50 - 60 at night right now.
Thanks

I’m new to this but when I put mine in coop after they spent almost 2 months in a tank in house they didn’t roost. So for a few nights we helped them up. Now they all hop right up.

Do not worry at all! My girls didnt decide to get up on their roost until they were 11 weeks! They all slept in a pile on the floor. I put them in the coop at 9 weeks. Yes,a little spoiled. But happy to report they all roost now......but all in a pile on the roost too! Haha one step at a time.

Ok, so sounds like I was right, I'm impatient. :)
I do like the idea of a smaller practice roost. I had one in the brooder and they did take to it. Funny.

We put the whole poop tray and roost bar on the ground then put the legs on it later then when we did we put a temporary step up bar...that way they dont hurt them selves jumping down.

And i agree with blocking off nesting boxes as well....mine still come in the coop to nap all day. Blocked mine off with some lenolium scraps.

Also, do you have big chickens in that coop? If you do, our little chicks don't go on the roosting bar yet with our big ones. They are just trying to avoid pecking.
