I have a four week old buff orpingotn and a four week old barred rock. These are my first chicken ever, and I am really hoping they are not roosters. I got them from a feed store that guaranteed them to be females, but I know that its never 100% accurate. These are not the greatest pics, but if anyone could give me there opinion I would appreciate it!

These babies are only four weeks old, which I know is young to tell them apart. I will post more picks as they get older. I'm just hoping for pullets because we live in the city and are not allowed to have roosters. I'm already pretty attached to the little stinkers and would hate to have to re-home anybody. I also have a three week old black star and three three day old chicks of unknown breed.

Well I was just thinking pullets because at 4 weeks, if they were roo's, I'd expect to see at least a little pinking up of the comb and little wattles appearing and I don't see any of that on your chicks. Your barred rock is pretty dark, I don't see any monster baby roo feet on either bird, not that the Orp is showing much foot but what I can see in that first pic doesn't look huge. And it looks like the barred rock has dark wash down the legs in front.

Your right, they are young and can fool you but those are the things I look for in birds that age when I want to start guessing gender!
